Hi, My name is Celena but I go by Cee – it’s easier to remember and spell
I’m a total candle freak. I used to be guilty of melting my yucky paraffin candle nubs down to make new candles. WHAT a mess that was. I’d use an old coffee can, or anything I could THROW OUT after I was finished, because I was NOT gonna clean that nasty old thing after using it. Have you done this too?
In 2004 I found out how dangerous it was to burn paraffin. I was scared, actually. Paraffin is a component within crude oil. I found a very informative article about this on Health Publications website that I encourage you to read. As I did research about paraffin, it was plain to see NO house should ever have a paraffin candle in it.
Being the total candle freak I am, what was I to do? I immediately bought a soy candle making kit and started MAKING my own. I know what goes into each candle and feel comfortable about that. Then I decided this would be a great business to earn extra money and pay for my daughter’s dance lessons with the proceeds. That’s how Dancing Flames Soy Candles ‘ignited’ – ok that was a bad joke, but I bet you have one of those grins on your face anyway….you know the one, like, it’s so stupid but I smile anyway? So I did a lot of retail at farmers markets and got into teaching classes on how to make your own soy candles. I found I love teaching the classes more than the retail side of it. So when the economy tanked, I decided to ‘reinvent’ my business to keep up with the times.
What I found in the process of making my own candles is that it’s a great relaxing hobby that has aromatherapy combined with it! I call it candle therapy! The fragrances are just out of this world! There is no “waxy” smell under the fragrance, just pure scent coming from the wax. In fact, unscented soy wax smells almost sweet.
There were a few things I noticed right away when I began burning my soy candles. I don’t get headaches anymore when I burn my candles. There is no more black soot on my walls from burning candles. The candles themselves give off such a beautiful glow because there isn’t that black fog inside the candle container. It is a great feeling to know that my home made candle is producing no toxic fumes.
I like the thought that I make my own unique candles for much less than I can buy them in the store. Not only am I saving the quality of air in my home, I save a lot of money making my own soy candles. I love actually being able to make candles as gifts for friends and relatives, too.
I also make custom candle orders for those who don’t want to make their own candles, and teach candle making classes in private homes, here in the Las Vegas Valley. Check out my “Candle Making Classes” page to see what fun things we create.
Click around my site. I have a lot of information to help you learn how to make your own soy candles. I’ve included the suppliers I personally use, too.
